Cannabis Operations

An SOP is only useful when staff can identify the current approved version. Version control reduces conflicting instructions and makes training and review easier.
Include a title, document ID, version, owner, approver, effective date, next review date, and change summary. Keep the current copy in one controlled location and make archived copies read-only.
The internal linking plan shows how to make related operating documents discoverable. Pair version updates with the shift handoff template when a change affects the next team.
Describe what changed and why. Confirm referenced systems, forms, and roles still exist. Approval should happen before the effective date, with an exception process for urgent safety or regulatory changes.
Remove uncontrolled copies from shared folders and printed stations according to policy. Record who was notified and how training or acknowledgment was handled. Test a sample of work after the change.
The NARA records management guidance is an authoritative reference for document lifecycle concepts.
Use the documented change and approval process so the edit remains attributable.
On its defined cadence and whenever a process, system, rule, or incident materially changes.
